Poster and Digipack rough drafts

Here I have started my rough drafts of my poster. I made the map background by using pages from a map, soaking them in tea, burning the edges a little and then pouring food colouring to look like blood onto them.

I scanned them into photoshop and then added all the writing and fonts. I did consider handwriting it on, and I did experiment with this but decided against it.

To make it more realistic I included a few 'quotes' from famous figures and music magazines, along with 5 stars.

I used different fonts for each quote to differientiate between each one, and kept them quite simple as they are not the main texts.

I used the same technique for the actual digipack cover as well. This has more of a map feel as it has markings on where the survivors plan to escape to where it's supposedly safe.
To make the digipack itself more official I added a record companies name (Zombie Records) along the spine  and the back cover, as well as a barcode. I also added another of the artists, Sam Hart, songs as a B-side to the back of the case.

Digipacks and Magazines

I have started designing my own digipacks and will be doing a 'map' idea, showing the characters heading towards a safehouse, but they never make it as we see from the video.

I will be making it look as old and tattered as possible, by ripping it in places, buring parts of the outside and adding 'blood' (food colouring or fake blood, anything red really). This not only shows how long they have been searching for this place, but the red seeping over the paper could also show how zombies are taking over the whole country and soon it will all be covered and destroyed.

I will also be adapting this for my magazine poster as an A4 size.
I'm going to be making the cover by hand and then scanning it in and editing the colours, possibly adding the text also.

This is a very rough and basic prototype of what I hope to achieve. This was all done on photoshop just to get a basic image of what I want to do.

Colour

Here is the original coloured video.

Caitlin and I finished our music video yesterday and we decided to make it all black and white as it has a more ominus feel about it and gives it a more mysterious feeling.

We also had to crop the song down a bit as it was too long for the amount of footage we had shot. We also used a lot of different effects on it to give it more of a horror feeling to it, we used 'bad TV', 'solarisation' 'negative' 'bad film' and also played around with different speeds; slow motion for action shots to draw attention to them, and then speeding up other parts to show the contrasts of the speeds and it looks pretty cool.

The song has quite a long intro and so we used a lot of effects to keep it interesting and keep the audience guessing.

Summer Music Festivals

The UK holds several big music festivals which have 100s of acts performing at each. All are different and have their own individual style. Reading and Leeds are two of the biggest and everyone anticipates the announement of the line up. T in the Park is the biggest festival in Scotland and of course, there is Glastonbury - the godfather of festivals with a huge variety of singers, bands, comediennes and just about everything else to do with the Arts. It appeals to a huge number of people with all different tastes and of all different ages - such as in 2011 the headliners ranged from BeyoncĂ© to U2 and Coldplay.

In my opinion I would say T in the Park and Reading and Leeds are for a younger generation, 15 - 30 as it features a lot more modern music such as The Vaccines, Chase and Status etc.
Lattiude is another festival of the Arts and has a massive line up of comedians and drama, the line up is not as A-line as the other festivals and features a lot of up and coming bands, as well as some older musicians, this years features Elbow and Richard Hawley.

Depending on who is 'it' the year of the festival the ratio of British to American bands shifts, this year at Reading and Leeds the headliners are The Cure, Kasabian and Foo Fighters - 2 out of 3 are British, and none are brand new bands, this may sway the audience to an older generation.

I think all festivals fit to both genders and all races as there is always such a diverse line up that there is something for everyone. Even at smaller festivals such a Latitude there is bound to be something for someone. Most festivals are very cultured and have a lot of acts from many different countries and cultures, not just the UK and USA and this helps promote them to a larger audience.

Audience Research

Profiling:

Over the last few years zombie films have become very popular and now there are all sorts of zombie media such as games, books, and now music videos. I have previously mentioned some other zombie music videos and films in an earlier post. Stereotypically, people think of others who watch zombie films as male, 14-30 year olds, horror and gore fans. This is only a stereotype however and there are a lot of other people who enjoy this genre.

I have print screened the statistics for popular remake of Dawn of the Dead. It has a lot of votes so I can count it as a reliable source and it shows that my stereotype is actually quite correct.
In a majority of zombie films, the girl is always the first to die, in our video there is only one girl, but she is the only (human) one to die - so this fits in with the normal conventions. There is also blood and drama.

Music that accompanies zombies is usually heavy metal, but our song variates from that norm by being an acoustic number. Some audience members who enjoy zombies, but it may entice a people who are a fan of the acoustic genre to get a wider audience.

Acoustic music is a hard genre to profile has it's so wide. I think it includes both genders and people of all ages so it's a very wide category and will should have a large fan base.

Character Profiles

This is how we would like our characters to look, just like ordinary people who get caught of guard in a zombie attack and a couple of them got bitten. They are all in different kinds of clothing, such as a blazer and a camo jacket to represent lots of different people so the story will apply to more people. They are all a bit muddy and grubby too after running away from zombies and trying to survive.
